Stuffed Chicken Mirchi Bajji / Menasinakai Bajji

Mirchi bajji / Menasinakayi Bajji - It’s a perfect snack on those,rainy gloomy and chill weather and when its stuffed with chicken mince what more do you want. Mirchi Bajji’s accompanied with a cup of hot tea or coffee as a nice evening refreshment!! Its also one of those quick snacks that can be fixed when you have unexpected guests knocking at your door. Mirchi bajji also called as mirapakaya bajji, milagai bajji or chilli bajji  is a popular street food of South India. Bajji are a kind of deep fried fritters.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup gram flour or besan
  • 1 tbsp  rice flour
  • 4-5 bajji chilies
  • 1/2 - 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp  cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp asafoetida
  • 1/4 tsp amchur powder
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/4 tsp carom seeds or ajwain seeds
  • Oil for deep frying and 1 tbsp to pour on the besan batter
  • Salt as per your taste.


Ingredients for stuffing:

  • 300 gms chicken mince
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion 
  • 2 tbsp finely chopped coriander leaves
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 - 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp  cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp amchur powder
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • Salt as per your taste.

*Mix well all the above ingredients for stuffing and stuff the chicken mince mixture into the chillies*

Method 

1.Wash the chillies and pat dry with clean kitchen towels. Slit them each lengthwise with a knife , without completely split them into two. Carefully remove the seeds completely with the help of the spoon and stuff the chciken mixture into the chillies. 

2.In a mixing bowl, mix gram flour, rice flour, red chilli powder, carom seeds, asafoetida, salt  and hot oil.Add water little by little and mix well with a whisk and make a thick batter. The batter should easily coat the chillies, not too thick.

3.Mean while, heat enough oil to fry the bajjis in a kadai. Dip one by one stuffed chillies . Cook both sides for 2 minutes a side or until golden brown and crisp. Once done, drain on paper towels.

4.Serve hot with Mint chutney!
