Congress Kadale Beeja (Moongfali Masala) / Masala Peanuts

Congress kadalekayi / Spicy masala peanut is a Coffee/Tea time snack.  This is a  popular snack in Karnataka, that too specially in Mysuru and Bengaluru. Its an Iyengar Bakery special Item ! I have explained in the video, why it is called Congress kadalekayi !! Its everone's favourite evening snack. It is a simple and easy recipe to make. Do try this and you will be addicted!!

Ingredients

1 cup raw peanuts or ground nuts or kadlekai or shenga
1 tbsp oil
1/4 tsp red chilly powder (adjust as per your spice level)
1 tbsp pepper powder (adjust as per your spice level)
1/4 tsp  turmeric powder
1 sprig curry leaves
Salt as per your taste

Method

  1. In a thick bottomed pan roast the peanuts until slightly brown for 6 to 8 minutes on low  flame.
  2. Wait until roasted peanuts are cool. Rub, deskin and halve the peanuts.
  3. After that separate the peels and deskinned peanuts.
  4. Now take a 1 tbsp of oil in the same pan and heat it. Add in curry leaes and fry until crisp.
  5. Reduce the flame and add in all the spice powders like chili powder, pepper powder,turmeric powder and add peanuts give a quick stir.
  6. Mix well for a minute.
  7. Crush the curry leaves and mix well using hands. Doing so will help in blending the curry leaves well with the peanuts.
